Congressional candidate Michael Guest makes statement on U.S. – Israel relations

By: Sarah Ulmer - April 3, 2018

On Monday, April 2, Michael Guest, a Republican candidate for Mississippi’s Third Congressional District, released a paper covering his policy stances on preserving a strong relationship between the United States and Israel.

Guest, a Sunday school teacher and deacon at Brandon Baptist Church, cited his faith as the main driver in releasing this paper as his first foreign policy platform statement. “As a Christian, I believe God’s Covenant to Abraham grants indisputable legitimacy to the nation of Israel. As a country founded on Judeo-Christian principles, I believe our top foreign policy duty is to lend support to Israel in their fight against radical Islamic terrorism and defense of their lands,” Guest said.

In the paper, Guest outlined four priorities he would support as a pro-Israel candidate: Providing military assistance to Israel to combat terrorism and protect their citizens from terrorist activities, applying additional sanctions to Iran to halt their continued support of terrorist groups and curb their ability to produce nuclear weapons, supporting legislation to stop the Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, and by backing a pro-Israel peace process.
