School districts could be required to adopt dating violence policies to protect students #billoftheday

By: Sarah Ulmer - January 25, 2018

HB69 would require school districts to adopt a dating violence policy to protect and educate students on healthy relationships. The bill was authored by Rep. Hines and hopes to ensure that all students have the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment.

House Bill 69

  1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
  2. SECTION 1. (1) The Legislature finds and declares that all students have a right to work and study in a safe, supportive environment that is free from harassment, intimidation and  violence. The Legislature further finds that when a student is a victim of dating violence, his or her performance in school and individual safety suffer. Therefore, in an effort to reduce the occurrence of dating violence among students in our state, the Legislature declares that the school board of each school district must adopt a policy to create a better understanding and awareness of dating violence.
