“In contrast to President Trump’s self-proclaimed ‘performance’ put on in front of TV cameras at the White House Tuesday, his defamatory remarks against less affluent countries behind closed doors are a disturbing window into the racial bias that appears to be driving his immigration agenda.”
“The President has been in office for a year and still does not understand the economic, cultural, and national security benefits that come with being a nation of immigrants. Immigrants come here from all over the world because they want to make a better life for themselves and their families – and we as a country are better for it. These legal immigrants contribute to our economy as they work towards the American dream. Democrats will continue to deal in good faith with all those that want to negotiate legislation to address the DREAMers, but it is increasingly difficult to believe the President intends to do the same.”

WLBT – Kosciusko, Oprah’s hometown weighs in on her chances of becoming President of the United States
“She moved on from here and had big things happening in her life,” said a Kosciusko resident. “I believe she can do it, I believe she got the spirit and the know-how. “
“It kind of put Mississippi on the map,” said another Kosciusko resident.
Kosciusko Mayor Jimmy Cockroft agrees. He remembers meeting Oprah when she dedicated the six-million-dollar Boys and Girls Club building back in the early 2000’s.
“It is a really neat thing for the city,” said Mayor Cockroft. “Whether you agree with her politics or her beliefs or anything else, It’s really a neat idea that someone from Kosciusko, Mississippi would be considered to run for president of the United States.”
Governor Bryant elected Co-Chair of ARC
Bryant was elected by Appalachia’s 13 governors and as co-chair, he will work directly with the federal co-chair to invest in economic growth and development across the Appalachian region. He will also host the 2018 ARC conference, which will be held in the fall in Mississippi.
“Appalachia will benefit from Governor Bryant’s experience and commitment to sustainable and robust economic development,” said ARC Federal Co-Chair Earl F. Gohl. “His leadership as states’ co-chair will be a valuable asset to the Commission and the Region.”

DAILY JOURNAL – Nunnelee’s impact recalled during naming ceremony
JACKSON – Gov. Phil Bryant said Thursday that if he had his way, he would name the Mississippi Capitol after Alan Nunnelee.
“He was very humble,” said Bryant on Thursday at the ceremony where the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality Building in downtown Jackson was named for Nunnelee, a former state senator and U.S. House member who died in 2015.
“He never sought attention. All he wanted to do was some good for his state and country,” the governor added.
