The recent Millsaps College-Chism Strategies State of the State Survey asked Mississippians how they feel about policies, politicians, and the most important items on the Legislatures agenda for 2018.
While feelings weren’t warm and fuzzy when it came to the Mississippi Legislature as a whole, with an approval rating at -12%, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann was found to be the most popular elected official with an approval rating of +34% overall, and +58% with just Republicans. He’s especially popular with voters age 55 and up.
“Honored and humbled to serve the people of the great State of Mississippi. My mission every day is to make Mississippi the best place it can possibly be to live, work, and raise our children and grandchildren,” Hosemann posted on Facebook.
Treasurer Lynn Fitch also got high marks with a +19% overall approval rating. The majority of Republicans seemed to be satisfied with her performance. Her weakest demographic was voters ages 18-34.
What issue did voters say was of top priority this session? The state’s roads and bridges. 23% of respondents said infrastructure was a top priority for them, followed by health care being more accessible and more affordable.
