Technical amendments bill to address managed care
JACKSON – Legislation with the mundane label the “Medicaid technical amendments bill” could result in a high level of conflict during the 2018 session.
The technical amendment bill could be the vehicle where efforts are made to limit the state Division of Medicaid’s managed care program. Currently, about 70 percent of the approximately 710,000 Medicaid recipients are in MississippiCAN, the managed care program where Medicaid pays a set amount of money to insurance companies to provide health care services for each individual in the program.
Medicaid officials say managed care holds down costs and has the potential to result in better health care for the Medicaid recipients since the insurance companies have a financial incentive in trying to provide preventive health measures for their clients.
