MSGOP MUNICIPAL CANDIDATE SPOTLIGHT
The Mississippi Republican Party has fielded candidates in more municipalities than ever before this election season, and we are proud to spotlight a few of these rising stars in the weeks ahead.
Our first Republican municipal Candidate in the Spotlight this week is Jason Bailey, Ward 6 Alderman in Oxford.
Mr. Bailey is a graduate of Oxford High School and the University of Mississippi. In addition to being an Oxford Alderman, he also serves on the Oxford Reserve and Trust Board. His past service to the community includes the City of Oxford Planning Commission, a 2006 graduate of the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Lafayette program, and a volunteer coach for the Oxford Park Commission.
Mr. Bailey is an owner and operator of Summit Management Services, LLC. As a job creator and a small business owner, his knowledge and leadership skills have been recognized by the Mississippi Business Journal where he was named among the Top 50 Business People Under 40 in Mississippi for 2017.
“We have come a long way in Oxford but there are still many challenges to be addressed,” Mr. Bailey said. “I want to continue to be a part of the solution over the next four years.”
Mr. Bailey is focused on a variety of issues as Alderman for his Oxford neighbors including the continued growth of the community and university, infrastructure needs, work force development, affordable housing options, and the continuation of Vision 2037 including the writing and adoption of the Land Development Code and Zoning Map that will provide the framework for smart, creative development in the city.
“I am committed to this community and serve with a goal of keeping Oxford a safe, vibrant community that continues to offer a wonderful quality of life to those of us who call it home,” Mr. Bailey noted. “I have a deeply personal stake in this process. Raising my children in the same town and schools that I grew up in is an incredible blessing. I promise to work hard, listen well and thoughtfully make decisions for this community as I would for my own family.”
Our second Republican municipal Candidate in the Spotlight this week is Pete Ledlow, candidate for Ward 4 Alderman in Starkville.
Mr. Ledlow enlisted in the U.S. Navy soon after high school and was stationed aboard the USS Nimitz. It was Norfolk, Virginia where he met his wife of 40 years. The couple has two children and three grandchildren.
Mr. Ledlow and his family moved to Starkville 36 years ago. During that time he has owned and operated Pete’s Transmission Shop and been an active part of the local business community.
“I have decided to run for Ward 4 Alderman because I feel we need better representation from our current Alderman,” Mr. Ledlow said. “We need more communication to the people and businesses. I feel my business experience would be a great asset to this ward and our city.”
Mr. Ledlow is a long time conservative who will put Republican principles and his business acumen to work for the people of Starkville.
“I’ve always voted Republican, since my first absentee ballot while in the Navy,” Mr. Ledlow noted. “To me the Republican Party has always given me a sense of pride and assurance that makes me proud to be an American!”
