Palazzo Joins President Trump at Bill Signing Ceremony
Washington, DC – Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS-4) joined President Trump at the White House today as he signed into law the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Transition Authorization Act of 2017.
“As former Chairman of the House Space Subcommittee, I worked tirelessly with my colleagues on this NASA Re-authorization Bill. After five years of continuous effort, today President Donald J. Trump signed that bill into law.
“Our bill provides clear guidance for NASA and a pathway to meeting America’s space exploration goals. I look forward to working with the new administration to implement these policies and to restore American leadership in space. I’m confident that under the Trump Administration, we will once again launch American astronauts, on American rockets, from American soil.”
The NASA Transition Authorization Act of 2017 is the first time Congress has reauthorized NASA in seven years, and does so at the House’s proposed FY2017 funding level of $19.5 billion. The original re-authorization bill was introduced by Congressman Steven Palazzo during his time as Chairman of the House Space subcommittee, and passed the House on two separate occasions. The bill maintains vital support for the Space Launch System and Orion crew vehicle, the International Space Station, and the commercial crew and cargo programs. Much of the engine testing for the SLS program is done at Mississippi’s Stennis Space Center. The bill also makes the determination that the technological and scientific goals of the Asteroid Redirect Mission have not been demonstrated, and requires a report on alternatives to demonstrate the technologies needed for a human mission to Mars.
