Funding battle heats up over movie business
Incentive measure dies in Mississippi Legislature
A measure that would have renewed a filmmaking incentive, which is one of the reasons more movies have been shot in Mississippi in recent years, died in the Senate Finance Committee.
The measure granted filmmakers a 25 percent tax rebate on out of state workers. A recent state study revealed that Mississippi was only earning 49 cents on each dollar invested.
Sen. Joey Fillingane, the Senate Finance Committee chairman, said the state can’t afford to lose money right now.
