Flag debate comes to Ole Miss’s Vaught-Hemingway
“We are a place that treasures freedom of speech,” said current Chancellor Jeff Vitter. “Go in The Grove on game day and you will see that.”
Sen. Chris McDaniel, R-Laurel, joined the chorus of critics.
“These students do not leave their rights outside of Vaught-Hemingway stadium,” McDaniel told The Clarion-Ledger. “Ole Miss is selectively enforcing speech.”…
…When The Clarion-Ledger asked McDaniel about why there seems to be more pressure on Ole Miss, he pointed to the university’s “traditions.”
“Every university in the country has some unique tradition. … and I think they should stick to those unique traditions. I think difference and diversity make us special, that’s what makes it (Ole Miss) special.
The claims are familiar to Vitter, who citing his open-door policy, said he’s had several meetings with individuals upset about the changes.
