To the response from the governor’s office regarding sexual harassment complaints within the state Department of Public Safety. Gov. Phil Bryant told The Clarion-Ledger that he will use any power and influence he has over state agencies to make sure people understand such behavior better not happen again. In order to screen, detect, and correct behaviors and attitudes that could lead to sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace, the state is developing an online test engineered by Deanne Mosley, chairwoman of the Mississippi State Personnel Board. It isn’t up yet, Bryant said, but he hopes to have it running sooner rather than later. Additionally, the governor advocated for two recent state’s settlements of sexual discrimination or harassment lawsuits, totaling $100,000, be made public. Overall, Bryant didn’t mince words when he discussed sexist behaviors in the workplace, saying he sees such actions as “personally insulting,” and the state will back women in their efforts to be equal in the workplace.
