Mississippi one of most ‘tax friendly’ states

“Mississippi has always made our tax friendly list , but there are a couple caveats there,” said Block. “Their state income tax kicks in really low. Once you make $5,000 in taxable income, you pay a 3 percent income tax. That basically means everybody who lives there is paying some kind of income tax.”

Block also says the state and local sales tax is pretty reasonable at 7.07 percent, but there’s one caveat.

“One thing you have to be aware of in Mississippi is that they don’t exempt groceries; most states do,” said Block. “You’re going to pay that sales tax on about everything.”…
