Justice recuses himself in Hinds DA case
A state Supreme Court justice has recused himself from a case involving Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith, who was arrested in June over allegations he aided two criminal defendants.
Justice Jim Kitchens removed himself Friday from a request by Smith before the Supreme Court to throw out an order barring him from participating in Hinds County grand jury procedures. Under seal in the same Supreme Court case, the state attorney general’s office made its own requests of the court, the details of which remain unknown to the public.
