‘SHAPE UP AT THE CAPITOL’ TO PROMOTE HEALTHY LIVING
JACKSON – The Mississippi Legislature will sponsor Shape Up at the Capitol on Friday to promote healthy lifestyles for employees of state government and downtown Jackson businesses, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and Speaker Philip Gunn announced today. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the south side of the Capitol.
Shape Up at the Capitol will offer music, food, exercise demonstrations, and a fitness fair where participants can talk with representatives from local fitness-related programs and facilities. Both Lt. Gov. Reeves and Speaker Gunn will speak.
“Shape Up at the Capitol brings together individuals in both the public and private sectors to stress the importance of healthy living,” Lt. Gov. Reeves said. “I appreciate the work of state employees and sponsors to emphasize nutrition and exercise in our state.”
“I’m happy to see this event occurring again at the Capitol,” said Speaker Gunn. “Health costs are high in Mississippi. Being physically active and eating healthfully are good ways to combat a lot of preventable diseases. This event is a wonderful way to encourage people. Thank you to all the sponsors for participating this year and for promoting healthy lifestyles among Mississippians.”
Encouraging healthy living habits can maintain a healthy workforce, increase productivity and manage health care costs. Vendors at the event include Baptist Healthplex, Mississippi Farmer’s Market, AARP, American Cancer Society, athenafit Barre Studio and many more.
