Young Sanders delegate willing to support Clinton
Many hardcore backers of Sen. Bernie Sanders won’t take his advice to back Hillary Clinton in the presidential race. Weston Lindemann isn’t one of them.
Lindemann said the deal was sealed for him when Sanders, who lost the Democratic nomination race to Clinton, asked delegates at the party’s convention on Tuesday to nominate his former rival by acclamation.
“I’m following Bernie’s lead,’’ said Lindemann, a Sanders’ delegate. “It’s been speech after speech, unite behind Hillary Clinton.’’
At 19, Lindemann is the youngest Sanders supporter in Mississippi’s delegation to the convention. Susanna Blount, 17, a Clinton supporter and the daughter of state Sen. David Blount, D-Jackson, is the state’s youngest delegate.
