Special election set for Rep. Kimberly Campbell seat
Gov. Phil Bryant has set special election to a vacant seat in the Mississippi House.
Democratic Rep. Kimberly Campbell of Jackson stepped down at the end of May to become state director of AARP. She had been in the House since 2008.
District 72 covers parts of Hinds and Madison counties, including parts of north Jackson, Ridgeland and Pocahontas.
Bryant’s office said Friday that candidates’ qualifying deadline is July 25 and the election is Aug. 23.
