TRENT KELLY: Too many rules prove burdensome for our economy
Small businesses and farms are the backbone of our economy and we must ensure that they have a level playing field.
The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA), “waters of the United States” (WOTUS) rule is an example of burdensome regulations that are harmful to our towns, small businesses and farmers. The rule seeks to expand federal jurisdiction of our nation’s waters under the Clean Water Act, which will impact how farmers and private landowners can utilize their own property. This unconstitutional rule is an unreasonable way to protect drinking water for our citizens.
As I travel throughout north Mississippi, you have made it clear that the rule is an overreach by the EPA. The Court of Appeals agrees and issued a nationwide stay on implementation. I will continue to fight against the WOTUS rule in its current form while seeking solutions that protect clean drinking water and constitutional rights.
The Department of Labor’s (DOL) proposed overtime rule creates an incentive for businesses to hire part-time employees in place of full-time positions.
