Geoff Pender: Miss. lawmakers trampling First Amendment
The Politburo — I mean the Mississippi Senate — passed a measure last week to nullify key tenets of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
It now heads to the Central Committee — I mean state House. If it passes there, it will be sent to the general secretary — I mean governor — who can sign into state law prior restraint on free speech, which was held to be unconstitutional even as our nation’s founders were putting ink on the document.
But it was considered hunky dory in Soviet and National Socialist doctrine.
Senate Bill 2237 makes details of a state execution — the names of employees and family members in attendance and the makers of lethal drugs used — a state secret.
