YallPolitics has confirmed that one of the candidates in the Senate District 25 race was not certified by the Secretary of State. Originally, the Clarion Ledger had reported that three candidates filed to qualify. However, J. Leland Speed, an executive of Eastover Insurance Group, was not certified by the Secretary of State in the race after filing to qualify.
That leaves only a two man race between former State Senator J. Walter Michel who once occupied the seat prior to 2011 and Bill Billingsley who recently was defeated in the SD 25 Republican primary by Will Longwitz, who succeeded Michel and recently accepted a judicial appointment.
