Gov. Phil Bryant set the special election to fill a vacancy in Senate District 25 for March 8.
If needed, a runoff will be on March 29.
The seat came open when Bryant appointed Sen. Will Longwitz last week as Madison County Court judge.
Madison Republican Bill Billingsley, who challenged Longwitz in November’s election for the seat said he intends to qualify to run in the special election. Qualifying for the special election will end on Feb. 8 at 5 pm.
