Local legislators united in opposition to Initiative 42
Initiative 42’s encroachment on the separation of powers is very problematic,” said Rep. Hank Zuber of Ocean Springs. “This can be explained by asking a very simple question: What if the same approach were used to address underfunding in public higher education, public safety, Medicaid or roads and bridges?
“Court involvement is blatantly wrong and 42 would result in numerous unintended consequences.”
“It is a bad public policy the way it’s written and the unintended consequences are dangerous and real,” said Sen. Brice Wiggins of Pascagoula.
Rep. Charles Busby of Pascagoula said the language in Initiative 42 is so broad it leaves too much open to interpretation.
