Incumbents win local primaries

…House District 46 runoff
A runoff will also be necessary for the Republican nomination for District 46 House of Representatives. That district, after redistricting, now includes the Bluff Springs, Cadaretta and Fay precincts in Webster County. The district also includes all of Montgomery County and parts of Carroll, Grenada and Leflore counties. Incumbent Republican Bobby Howell did not seek re-election.
Karl Oliver of Winona led the Republican ticket for the open seat with about 44 percent of the vote districtwide. Since he did not receive 50 percent plus 1 vote, Oliver will be a runoff on Aug. 25 with one of the other two candidates: Shed Hunger IV of Winona or Matt Bennett of Kilmichael, who led in Webster County with 61.54 percent of the vote.
Hunger was holding on to a five-vote lead over third-place finisher Bennett as of Friday morning in unofficial results, according to The Winona Times. Oliver’s opponent was not expected to be determined until today pending official certification because a handful of affidavit ballots were still awaiting voter ID verification in Carroll County.
