SAM HALL: Gunn shows political courage with flag stance
Gunn could have taken the road traveled by Gov. Phil Bryant, who pointed to the 2001 flag referendum in which 64 percent of those who voted chose to keep the state flag.
Gunn could have stayed silent, providing him cover until such a time that either the issue came to a head in Mississippi or passed us by as the national attention turned to another issue.
But Gunn did what few politicians do: He took what very well may be a politically unpopular stance because he feels it is the right thing to do.
That’s what political courage looks like.
