SOS Hosemann encourages #MS01 to go vote today

By: Magnolia Tribune - June 2, 2015

RELEASE:

Residents in First Congressional District encouraged to Go Vote

Jackson, Miss.—With alarming low turnout numbers for the First Congressional District Special Election, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann wants to remind voters to head to the polls for the Special Election Runoff.

“There is no reason to have such a low turnout for any election, much less an election for United States Congressman,” says Secretary Hosemann. “Now that the number of candidates has been narrowed, we hope more voters will show up on Election Day.”

Absentee ballots are typically a good indicator of voter turnout. Thus far, 3,156 absentee ballots have been returned to the Circuit Clerk’s Office in the Congressional Special Election Runoff, according to the Statewide Election Management System. The average number of absentee ballots cast for each election is generally 5 to 6%.

Some reminders:

· Polls are open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, June 2, 2015.
· Because this is a Special Election, candidates do not claim party affiliation on the ballot.
