Miss. lawmakers back competing bills to name courthouse
A competition is brewing again in Congress over what to name the federal courthouse in Jackson.
The House voted April 28 to pass a bill by Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson to name the courthouse on East Court Street after the late civil rights attorney R. Jess Brown.
A week before that vote, Republican Sen. Roger Wicker introduced a bill that would name the building after the late Charles Clark, who served as a federal judge for the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Mississippi from 1981 to 1992.
