#MS01: Collins seeking to be first female from Mississippi in Congress

By: Magnolia Tribune - April 29, 2015

Collins seeks to follow and make history

JACKSON – In a sense, Nancy Collins has history on her side.

After all, two of the last three 1st District U.S. House members were serving as a state senator representing Lee County when they won election to the U.S. Congress.

Collins is seeking to follow Roger Wicker and Alan Nunnelee as being state senators from Lee County elected to the U.S. House representing the 1st Congressional District.

But in another sense, Collins is fighting against history. If she emerges from the field of 13 candidates to capture the May 12 special election to fill the seat left vacant by the February death of Nunnelee, she will be the first woman from Mississippi elected to Congress.
