Jackson Co. Supervisor, SRHS retiree protestor exchange heated

By: Magnolia Tribune - April 24, 2015

Jackson County supervisor, protester exchange words

Jackson County Supervisor John McKay had words Monday with Barbara Jones, a Singing River Health System retiree who was outside the county Services Complex protesting the failed pension plan.

She was disturbed enough to take it to the Board of Supervisors meeting inside, and speak out there during the public-comment period.

She told the board McKay approached her and a group of about five on his way into the meeting….

…”She said, ‘We went to court,’ and I said, ‘Ma’am, I’m telling you the truth’ and it goes in one ear and out the other.

“She had a sign that said ‘We’re going to vote you out of office,'” he said. “I told her, ‘I don’t care how you vote. I like my job as a supervisor but if they vote me out, I’m good with that.’

“She said, ‘You don’t need the money?’ and I said, ‘Everybody needs money.’

“The point is, I don’t do the supervisor job for the money. If I’m not elected, then that’s what people wish. People get voted out every day. It’s not life or death. I already have two pensions. If I don’t do this. I’ll just be retired like other retired people.”
