A.J. Holloway steps down as Biloxi’s mayor (updated)

BILOXI, Mississippi — Six-term Biloxi Mayor A.J. Holloway has resigned, according to a press release from the city.

Holloway’s last day will be March 10.

“Due to an accumulation of health issues,” he wrote in his resignation letter, “I must ask the people of the City of Biloxi to permit me to be with my family for the remainder of this municipal term.

“I will keep you all in my prayers, and I ask only that you keep me in yours.”

In late January, the city announced Holloway, 75, had checked himself into an alcohol rehabilitation facility in Hattiesburg. Councilman Felix Gines has been serving as Mayor Pro Tem since then.
