Moss Point alderman offers to override Police Chief veto by mayor if son in law named Deputy Chief

By: Magnolia Tribune - September 3, 2014

Moss Point alderman writes memo on police chief choice

Before the Moss Point Board of Aldermen met Tuesday night to vote on whether to override Mayor Billy Broomfield’s veto of its choice of police chief, a letter was circulating on the conflict.

Alderman-at-Large Houston Cunningham confirmed he wrote a letter that he shared last week with some members of the Take Back Our Town Moss Point Citizen Coalition, a group protesting Broomfield’s recent decisions.

The letter was addressed to chief candidate Calvin Hutchins, though Hutchins said he never saw it.

The letter says if Cunningham’s son-in-law is named deputy chief, Cunningham would vote Tuesday for Hutchins, the board’s choice for chief.
