We’ve spent so much time discussing the marvelous burlesque on the Republican side of the Senate race in Mississippi that we haven’t spent much time looking at the Democratic candidate, Travis Childers. I have no expectations, reasonable or otherwise, about what it would take to get elected statewide in Mississippi as a Democratic candidate. But neither did I expect Childers to vow eternal fealty to The Worst Idea In American Politics.
“Folks, this seat belongs to you, to the people of the state of Mississippi,” Childers said. “It doesn’t belong to one person, doesn’t belong to one party or one political machine or one special interest group…The tea party says we cannot sustain 17 trillion in debt. They’re right. I pledge to vote for a balanced budget amendment.”
It’s been a while since I tested the sturdiness of my desktop with my head. I’ll be back in a second.
