McDaniel challenges Harrison County, others that won’t disclose poll books
Mississippi Senate candidate Chris McDaniel is forging ahead with plans to examine every poll book in Mississippi for evidence that would overturn his loss to Sen. Thad Cochran.
Several counties, including Harrison, have refused to hand over poll books because they contain voters’ personal information. McDaniel’s camp is legally challenging them to have circuit clerks comply with the law.
County attorney Tim Holleman said the law is contradictory, with different statutes requiring both full disclosure of poll books and protection of personal data.
At a hearing Friday morning, a Harrison County judge ruled Harrison County Circuit Clerk Gayle Parker must hand over the books and McDaniel must pay for the personal information to be redacted.
One of McDaniel’s lawyers, Sen. Michael Watson of Pascagoula, said close to 60 of the state’s 82 counties have granted them full access to the poll books
