Sen. Cochran Sides with Harry Reid – Again

Thirty-five-year incumbent Senator Thad Cochran sided with Democrat Harry Reid in opposing a Republican measure to curtail fraudulent government payments.

Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) offered an amendment that would have prevented people who already receive unemployment insurance from double dipping and collecting Social Security disability payment at the same time.

A majority of Republicans voted for Sen. Vitter’s fiscally responsible amendment, but Sen. Cochran joined the Democrats in opposing it. (RC #98, 04/02/14)

“Mississippi Republicans expect their senator to fight for fiscally responsible policies, not to side with Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid,” State Senator Chris McDaniel said. “Sadly, Sen. Cochran has failed the people of Mississippi yet again. At a time when our country is $17 trillion in debt, we need leaders who will stand up to Harry Reid, not career politicians who will cave to him.”
