SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS PASSES SENATE

JACKSON – Parents of special needs students are a step closer to having a choice in their child’s education, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said today.

The Senate passed House Bill 765 implementing a scholarship program for special needs students. The bill heads to the House for consideration.

“Parents deserve to have a choice in their children’s education, and this bill allows that for Mississippi’s most vulnerable students,” Lt. Gov. Reeves said. “I commend Sen. Collins for her hard work on this issue.”

The bill, similar to one by Sen. Nancy Collins, R-Tupelo, allows education funds to follow a child from public school to private school. The funds also could be used for other services, including occupational therapy and speech therapy.
