Senate passes “In God We Trust” for state seal

The United States’ motto, “In God We Trust,” could appear on the official Mississippi state seal, according to Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves.

The Mississippi State Senate passed legislation to place the phrase on the seal Friday after Gov. Phil Bryant called on the Legislature to approve it in his State of the State address.

Currently, the seal has an eagle and the words, “The Great Seal of the State of Mississippi” without a slogan.
