MS roads likely to get worse before taxes look appealing

Covered the state House Transportation Committee meeting today, and the release of a TRIP report on the condition of Mississippi’s roads and bridges (some of the report listed below, more coming in story).

More of what we’ve been hearing: Mississippi has no real road maintenance program or funding, and there are dire consequences down the road (sorry for the pun).

Some lawmakers and some in the business community are starting to push on this. Many other states, such as Arkansas, have passed new taxes to fund road work. But in Mississippi, I just don’t see a tax increase or “restructuring” to an indexed tax from our current 18.4 cents a gallon within the next year or two.
