Energy Leaders: Mississippi Poised For Energy Boom

Leaders from Mississippi’s energy sector say the path to rapid economic growth is in the use of natural resources like oil and natural gas. MPB’s Jeffrey Hess reports on an energy summit that drew several hundred.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich headlined the energy summit at the Jackson convention center yesterday.

Referring to recent remarks by President Barack Obama about the threat of inequality, Gingirch said energy is the way to promote prosperity for all Mississippians. “You can’t have it both ways/ You can’t worry about inequality and the do tings that guarantee people will remain in poverty. If you are seriously concerned about inequality, you have to have a policy of prosperity and policy of prosperity begins with energy,” Gingrich said.

Coal, oil, and natural gas are at the center of what the energy sector sees as the way forward for Mississippi’s economy.
