Ignore GOP idealogues; Cochran is no traitor
In 1972, we approached Thad Cochran to consider running for Congress. He was then an able, young attorney whose colleagues felt was well on his way to prominence and prosperity.
Patriotism and the desire to serve his state and nation won out.
He decided to run as a Republican, a bold move. There were less than a handful of Republican minor elected officials in Mississippi. Nixon had just been elected, but with only 17 percent of Mississippi’s vote — the lowest in the nation.
Thad has now served us faithfully and effectively for four decades, most of his adult life.
