Mississippi governor to chair oil and gas commission

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant has been elected chairman of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, which is the oldest oil and gas commission in the U.S. Bryant succeeds Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley, who served as the 2013 chairman.

“Governor Bryant knows first-hand the need for reliable sources of energy and the need for proper regulations and precautions,” Bentley said in a statement. “We know that with proper procedures in place, we can and should develop our resources for the benefit of our citizens.”

The commission represents governors of 30 member and associate states, and promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of the nation’s oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment.
