Barbour to work on jobs commission
Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour and former Gov. and Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh will co-chair a University of Virginia Miller Center commission that will focus on job creation in the manufacturing industry.
Barbour and Bayh are leading the Milstein Symposium. The initiative’s goal is to advance nonpartisan ideas that will help address challenges facing America’s middle class.
Manufacturing, entrepreneurship, self-employment and infrastructure investment will be studied during the initiative’s first year.
In addition to Barbour and Bayh, other commission members include W. Bernard Carlson, chairman of UVa’s Department of Engineering; John Engler, a former governor of Michigan and president of the business roundtable; and James Fallows, a national correspondent for The Atlantic.
