Election Support Fund to assist counties
Mississippi counties are receiving additional funding to help pay for elections.
Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann announced an additional $1,018,484 in funding through the Elections Support Fund.
The fund was created to decrease the state’s dependence on federal funding in the election process.
Hosemann says counties relied on federal funding from the Help America Vote Act to fund a majority of election costs.
With those funds depleted, state lawmakers created the Election Support Fund, which gets its money from annual report filings from out-of-state Limited Liability Companies.
