Sen. Chris McDaniel fights MS gas hike

A proposal released by Democratic Senator Willie Simmons could make the state of Mississippi see $700 million in new taxes to fund highway work. The Mississippi Senate Conservative coalition announced Monday that they will reject any attempts to raise gas taxes, or sales taxes on Mississippi families as part of a plan to raise revenue for transportation projects.

A state transportation task force has been looking into the issue, and Mississippi Senator Chris McDaniel reveals his plan to make sure the gas tax is not hiked.

“The Today Show” reported that 2014 could be a year for lower gas prices, but that might not be the case for Mississippians.

McDaniel said the increase would be a starting point for negotiations, but as Mississippi enters into a state of economic recovery, Republican Senator Chris McDaniel disagrees with Simmons’ proposal.
