Judge extends injunction on gun law
Special Attorney General Harold Pizzetta, who argued for the state that the law is constitutional, said all House Bill 2 does is narrowly define what is considered a concealed weapon.
“This is a matter of law,” Pizzetta said.
Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith, some constables and others sought the injunction.
On Monday, Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said, “I strongly support the Second Amendment, the right to bear arms, but this is a safety issue. We’re not trying to infringe on anyone’s rights. This new law is confusing and vague and can lead to misconceptions.”
Lawmakers passed the measure during the regular session, and Gov. Phil Bryant signed it. It had been set to take effect July 1.
