Wicker: Cannot support immigration bill in present form

The Senate immigration reform bill, S. 744, is officially called the “Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act.” But many Republican senators believe the bill is weak on enforcement, while giving 11 million illegal immigrants an easy path to amnesty.

During a speech Thursday on the Senate floor, Senator Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi) said he has “serious concerns” about the bill’s enforcement and accountability requirements and cannot support the bill in its present form.

Wicker, Roger (R-Mississippi)”The bill as written would not stem the tide of illegal immigration,” he stated. “The bill as written would not provide a solution to our broken immigration system.”
