Gregg Harper – Bloated Bureaucracy

By: Magnolia Tribune - June 7, 2013

Hello–

It has been more than four years since my first oversight hearing with the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) as a member of the Committee on House Administration.

Since that time, I’ve introduced several bills to terminate this obsolete agency. And just this week, my latest proposal passed the committee.

In 2002, the EAC had a three-year mandate. But – as with most government programs – it has found a way to maintain its existence.

This agency has become a bloated bureaucracy that mismanaged taxpayer dollars and has been the subject of two discriminatory hiring lawsuits.

Time and again, the agency’s actions – or lack thereof – have proven that it’s not necessary to conduct federal elections. The best course of action Congress can take is to dissolve the agency and end its wasteful spending.

God Bless,

Gregg Harper
Member of Congress
