Deadlines loom in session’s last weeks
With the Legislature in the home stretch of its regular session, House and Senate conferees will meet to try to iron out differences in appropriations bills for at least 60 state agencies and at least 30 general bills, including charter schools and other education reform bills.
There are three more deadlines lawmakers have to meet this week and several next week, the last week of the regular session.
Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, who presides over the Senate, told members to expect to work Saturday and Easter Sunday.
“I am hopeful by the end of the week the Senate and House will settle on a conservative budget that funds priorities and sets aside money in the rainy day fund,” Reeves said. “Mississippi’s economy has been described as fragile, and taxpayers expect a budget that spends their dollars responsibly.”
