Vicksburg Mayor Paul Winfield busted for bribery

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 22, 2013

According to the Clarion Ledger, Paul Winfiled will be arraigned on bribery charges stemming from an incident in 2012 with a prospective city of Vicksburg contractor.

U.S. Attorney’s office criminal division chief John Dowdy said the charges stem from a July situation in which an unidentified contractor asked Winfield what it would take to ensure that his company was chosen for a pre-disaster contract.

“Winfield met the source in a restaurant in Jackson and then the source asked Winfield what would need to be done to get the contract,” Dowdy said the complaint states. “Winfield responded ‘Ten,’ and held up 10 fingers, meaning $10,000.”

A press release from the FBI said the unidentified source was a cooperating informant with the FBI.

The complaint states that the informant asked Winfield if he could pay him $5,000 now and $5,000 once the contract was awarded.

Again, state law enforcement appears at this point to be conspicuously absent from yet another of what appears to be a pretty serious public corruption/bribery scandal.

As relevant files and more details come out about this, we will post them on YP.
