Blount – Revenue office should be moved to Jackson, not Clinton

The problem is that the Clinton location is preferred by House Speaker Philip Gunn, who represents Clinton. His interests are largely personal, at least from the standpoint that his personal interests lie more with his home district than anywhere else.

From Office space: Power vs. plan at ClarionLedger.com:

Blount says people in Clinton are like most Mississippians who know the importance of saving taxpayer money.

“The location of the Department of Revenue should not be based on politics or the whim of an individual,” Blount has said. “It should be based on an objective study, and it should be in the best interests of taxpayers of the entire state.”

If it were not for Gunn’s interest in moving DOR to Clinton, it is likely that Blount’s bill would sail straight through the Legislature and land on the governor’s desk with little dispute.
