Mississippi Democratic lawmakers vow to fight retirement benefit cuts
State Democratic lawmakers said today they will fight any bill that would reduce retirement benefits for current or retired state workers.
State Sen. Hob Bryan, D-Armory, said it’s not right for state employees, some who started in the 1960s and 70s at very low wages and had money taken out of their pay for retirement, to now possibly lose some of their retirement benefits.
Bryan, state Sen. Kenneth Wayne Jones, and other key Democrats said they are united in their opposition to any changes in retirement benefits.
