Mississippi leaders get close-up look at Helena KIPP school
Mississippi’s lieutenant governor, some legislators and the state education superintendent traveled just across the Mississippi River Tuesday to look at a successful charter school that they’d like to see replicated in their home state.
Leaders of the KIPP Delta Public School took the delegation on a morning-long tour of their campus in downtown Helena and finished with a question-and-answer session with students and parents.
“What you see going on here is really miraculous because kids are placed in an environment where they have the best opportunity for learning,” Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, an advocate of charter schools in Mississippi, said after the tour. “That’s what the push for charter schools in Mississippi is all about — to give all students and parents the best opportunity for learning.”
