Pre-session groundwork in full swing
For a couple of days now around the Capitol you couldn’t swing a dead cat without hitting some mover or shaker, lobbyist, special interest person, etc.
Apparently, Senate and House leaders are doing a lot of homework before the legislative session starts Jan. 8. I’m told Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and Speaker Philip Gunn are getting these folks in to hear what their legislative agendas are for the coming year — likely so they don’t get surprised once the session starts.
On the House side, this appears to be unusually well organized — with the lobbyists/directors being summoned to scheduled meetings with committee chairmen, the speaker, etc.
