Newcomer Josiah Coleman wins seat on Mississippi Supreme court

Newcomer Josiah Coleman cruised to a seat on the Mississippi Supreme Court, while Chief Justice Bill Waller Jr. held a solid lead over state Rep. Earle Banks, a Jackson Democrat in judicial races Tuesday.

Incumbent Supreme Court Justice Mike Randolph also breezed to re-election, while challenger Ceola James of Vicksburg unseated incumbent Ermea J. Russell on the Mississippi Court of Appeals.

Although judicial candidates run without party labels, the state Republican Party had endorsed Coleman, Waller and Randolph. The Democrats had endorsed Banks.

“I think the electorate is supporting the present court and I’m very pleased with it,” Waller said.
